DiveStar, the Power of Light

DiveStar Features

Full features list of DiveStar 10k torch.

  1. 4 Power Levels, using genuine 24x Cree XP-G led’s 50,000 hours life time
    • 100% – 10,000+ lumen, 1 hour 20 min burn time
    • 50% – (~) 4,800 lumen, 3 hours min burn time
    • 12% – 1,200 lumen, 12 hours burn time, that’s one long night
    • 1.3% – 150 lumen, 110 hours burn time for emergency situations, that’s over 4 and half day of continuous 24/7 burn time or 14 days of night use
  2. Output always remains constant throughout the burn time, until it turns off by the over-discharge battery management system (1)
  3. Uniform wide angle 120 (default) or 20 degree light beam on request
  4. Anodized Aircraft Aluminum 6061 (7 choices of color – clear, black, red, blue, orange, purple, green)
  5. Sealed Electronics compartment (impossible to contaminate/flood, but avoid complete submersion 2)
  6. Neutral White @ 5,500k (approx.)
  7. Each Cree XP-G LED’s runs @1.35A (measured) produce 423 lumen per LED
  8. Equivalent of 500W tungsten bulb output at 110W power consumption
  9. Single Easy to change/charge Lithium Polymer Battery, latest tech, 6 Cell 22.2v 6300mAh (140W/h)
  10. Battery with build in Management Module, over charge and over discharge cut-off (3)
  11. Battery charge remaining indicator – easy to see underwater blue LED’s (5 stages)
  12. Easy to use Battery Charger – 3 hours full recharge time
  13. More than 500 full charge/discharge cycles or 1000 half charge/discharge cycles
  14. Magnetic Switch – 5 Levels Power selector for easy operation even with gloves on
  15. Every DiveStar is pressure tested to 70m depth rating
  16. 1/4in (quoter inch) / 6.3mm Standard Photo mount screw
  17. Ergonomic, pistol handle grip, optional rubberised for non slip grip.
  18. Ability to use DiveStar 10k on land at 50% power or less and at with additional heat dissipation unit at 100%
  19. Double o’ring seals at both ends
  20. High Efficiency – 92% of energy converts to light
  21. Thermal output reduction / dropout, protecting against accidental overheating by lowering light output
  22. Size of DiveStar – 230 x 80 x 210 mm (unit length x diam x height including handle)
  23. Weight of DiveStar – 1.0 kg bare, 1.8kg with battery

  25. Shipping weight – 7 kg

Additional information

  1. Thermal Luminaire design with excellent heat dissipation of DiveStar is achieved using Copper/Aluminum thermal path.
  2. DiveStar uses 2 o’rings at each end. Same o’rings are used in the hydraulic press and able to seal 5000 PSI which is only found at 3,5km depth
  3. Composite Lens Cover –  is made from 1.5mm PMMA on the outside to protect from accidental scratches and 4mm Borosilicate Glass (Pyrex) for stiffness and support.
  4. Reflectors are made in a way to support the PMMA/glass lens, greatly increasing Max depth that torch can withstand
  5. Magnetic switch is used to minimize the possibilities of leaks. 5 position switch plus battery charge indicator switch on for the last 3 positions. If the ring switch is taken off (e.g. broken off) the torch turns to full power

Comparisons with other torches

(1) – All LED’s very the output with temperature, this depends thermal design of the luminaire and the environment they used in. This drop in output lumen is given as 10 lumen per degree starting at 25Deg C and stops at 110. Cree output measurements are reported starting at 85Deg C at junction point (basically back of the LED) so the nominal 10,000 lumen is even greater when you  just turn the torch on at 25 deg C. DiveStar uses Copper base PCB and Aluminum paths to dissipate the heat from LED to the base-plate and then to the body of the torch minimizing thermal impact. Using DiveStar in water will have a better heat dissipation than in the air and this drop in output will be minimized.

(2) – If improperly assembled or using parts that are damaged (e.g. o’ring, end-cap) can flood the torch which voids warranty. Please service the equipment by authorized dive shops.

(3) Charging and discharging the DiveStar Battery is safe if you use provided charger. Battery has a build in management module that balance the cells equally while charging.  Fully discharged battery must be at least partially recharged within 1 day or it will become unusable due to very small self discharge. If unused for longer period of time e.g. 3 months, Battery must be partially discharged and then charged using the provided charger.
